Naked and Unashamed is a book that swims upstream against the secular culture of our day. Toornstra demands a vital connection between sexuality and faith. Simply put, he argues that a positive sexual experience in marriage must be built upon a clearly defined reception of God's grace in our lives. The greatest contribution of this book may be the framing of a positive God glorifying theology of sexuality for the church at large. Enough of just saying "don't do it!"

Naked & Unashamed is a powerful and thought-provoking book that has a lot of potential implications for the field of Christian couples counseling. I appreciate that it can help couples work through intimacy barriers in a God-centered way and it is a resource that I enthusiastically recommend.

While many excellent Christian books on the subject of sexuality, marriage, and marital intimacy are available, Naked and Unashamed deserves an honored place alongside them. Rob Toornstra has succeeded in providing a treatment of these topics that is biblically informed, theologically rich, eminently practical, consistently thoughtful, carefully nuanced, and exceptionally well-written.
This rare constellation of qualities makes his volume not only valuable for pastors and counselors, but also accessible and beneficial to the general Christian reader. Pastor Toornstra is unwavering in his commitment to biblical principle, but knows how to apply those principles gently. His tone is positive and encouraging. He not only avoids nagging, he warmly invites those who are struggling in these areas to pursue God’s larger purposes for, and blessings of, sexual intimacy. In the area of sexual brokenness people don’t simply need instruction, they need help. This book provides both, and does so wisely and well.

There are many books on Do's and Don’ts for sex. However, Pastor Toornstra’s book is liberating because it simply unpacks the biblical meaning of sex, which is the very Gospel. As it is written, "the truth will set you free." Get this book. Our generation is in need of a rich theology of sex for everyone—young or old, churched or unchurched.
