The Bible is a big book. Because it is, a lot of Christians are either paralyzed by its size and don’t read it or miss the big ideas for what they are to believe and how they are to live. Yet we are called to be people of the Word who live out the Word in the world. Chris Morgan has provided a wonderful overview of God’s big idea for the world in One Enduring Story. Here you will learn what God has done, is doing, and will do in the future and how His-story can be your story.

This is a wonderful guide for anyone wanting to learn to read the Bible in the context of it’s own story. I’ve known Chris for many years and have watched him go from a guy with a lot of passion and little knowledge to a guy with enough systematic knowledge to be dangerous, to a great teacher who understands the story of the scriptures and knows how to communicate in a way that anyone can understand. Chris is a good guide through the greatest story ever told!

As a long time educator in biblical studies, I am aware of the good introductory books which help adults with the technical aspects of interpretation. These tend to be highly detailed and somewhat demanding. Another stack of books adequately meets the needs of younger children and those who educate them. However, what we need is a book that addresses the middle ground: simple without being simplistic and big-picture without neglecting the important biblical themes. Essentially, we need a book that helps young adults and more mature Christians gain a proper set of spectacles for how to read and understand their Bible. I am pleased to recommend One Enduring Story as that book. Arising from his own struggle and training to understand the Bible’s grand narrative, Chris Morgan introduces his readers to the overarching plot-line of the scriptures by exploring the themes of kingdom, mission, and covenant. It is a book that is accessible enough for high-school students yet challenging enough for adults who wish to gain a more holistic understanding of the story of Jesus and his love.

I read this book and loved it. It was incredibly helpful in shattering my fragmented view of the scriptures and God's redemptive plan. Chris has a gift for making deep theological concepts easily digestible. This book has changed the way I read the Bible, and believe it will do the same for so many others as well.

If Shakespeare is right and brevity is the soul of wit, then Chris Morgan has an enormous wit. In a beautifully helpful and concise way Chris helps the reader of Scripture go beyond reading the Bible as a fragmented collection of static proposition and isolated self-help verses, to see it in the much grander light of a divinely composed story with a united message and mission into which our very lives have been written. If you’ve ever wondered how to read the Bible, this is a great place to begin.
